Messenger of Peace – Brahma Baba (1884-1969) (Revised Edition)

Posted on January 14, 2013

In the month of January, the life and work of Brahma Baba is commemorated by people from around the world who have benefited from the teachings of Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga that have emerged as a result of his spiritual understanding and guidance, and from his selfless dedication to truth and humanity.

Brahma Baba was the founder of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, and through his example many souls around the world have created happier, peaceful, positive and more fulfilling lives for themselves. His legacy continues to inspire many people to make lasting changes in their lives.

Since Brahma Baba’s passing on the 18th January 1969, the organization has grown immensely, gained international recognition, and continues to touch the lives of many around the globe.

Formerly known as Dada Lekhraj, Brahma Baba was born in 1884 and came from humble beginnings in Karachi, now in Pakistan. He was the son of a village school teacher, and through a helpful marriage, and with the blessing of a good intellect, he became a self-made millionaire in the jewellery business. He was inspired to leave his work at the age of 54, and dedicate himself to making his own life ‘like a diamond’, and inspire others to do the same.

In the early 1930′s Brahma Baba had several spiritual experiences that changed his life forever.  When he went into silence he experienced a powerful and all loving light, as the source of all goodness and truth. The knowledge  of ‘Raja Yoga Meditation’ that emerged over the coming decades enabled souls to understand the ‘self’ better through spiritual understanding and the reflective practice of meditation: the philosophy answered questions that have engaged mankind for millennia.

Brahma Baba was a man for his time. His vision for the world was of oneness and unity, a world without division.  He saw the dire state that the world had come to, and recognized that this was a direct reflection of the inner state of consciousness. He understood that a better world can only come about when each one becomes once again internally peaceful and loveful… our innate and eternal qualities… and each one of us takes responsibility for ourselves. By transforming ourselves we can create a world of beauty and peace.

He saw that a better society could only come about when it was based on truth and peace, and that it could only start with the self, and then spread out to touch others. His aim was to make both women and men leaders, and not followers.

It’s Time …   for us to think about bringing transformation in our lives and to become messengers of peace.  Brahma Baba  showed that every soul has the capacity to make the world a better place with peace and equality, but we have to start with ourselves to create peace in the mind and love in the heart.  When we come from a place of peace and love, a place of virtue and harmony, a place of oneness then we can truly start to make the world a better place.  But we have to create peace in our inner world first.
